Dogs to Fetch Good Price
THE working dog sale to occur in Scone later this month is attracting plenty of interest from around the country.
Zac Ede, livestock salesperson for Elders said the catalogue has been finalised and there are 39 adult dogs 14 pups on offer.
“There are some local dogs and others coming from throughout the state, the north coast, Casino and down to Bathurst for the sale,” said Mr Ede.
“We have bidders who have registered from as far as Queensland, Tasmania, South Australia and Victoria,” he said.
“There were 120 registered bidders last year and we are expecting a few more this year
“They are a mix of people from hobby farmers, dairy farmers, to people wanting to move hundreds of cattle on the really big properties and a few people from the city who are into trialing for a hobby,” Zac Ede said.
As cattle prices have climbed, so too have the prices farmers have been paying for prices, a trend Zac believes may spill into the sale of working dogs.
“It all goes hand in hand, the more money they can get for cattle the more money they can spend on a dog to get the cattle in,” said Zac.
“Last year a lot of dogs were fetching $2,000 and this year I think they will be mostly $3,000 to $5,000,” he said.
“But they are still cheap labour, because they can do the work of many people,” said Zac Eadie.
Catalogues are available from Zac Ede and Dean Taylor.
