Lynda MacCallum, secretary of the Upper Hunter Cutting Horse said they were pleased to give the local charity $4,600 to help educate local teachers to support the mental well being of students.

“We didn’t expect to raise that much at all, we usually do try to give something back and we thought if we could raise $1,200 as it stands that would pay for one teacher to be trained to help kids with mental health awareness then brilliant, but we exceeded,” said Ms MacCallum.

“We always try and donate to a charity, in the past it has been the Thornthwaite Bush Fore Brigade, because that community usually helps us out a lot with our cattle and our cattle hire so that is why we usually get them, but one of the cattle donors suggested this time we give it to Where There’s A Will,” she said.

“We like it because it is a local charity and the money stays locally,” Lynda MacCallum said.

The money was raised through competitors being charged an additional $5 on their entry and others contributed by providing their services for free or donating the payments made for cattle, hay, transport and arena preparation back to the Club as a donation.
