Cricket Tour of a Lifetime
THE uniforms for the Wanderers Tour have arrived and later this month Jake Duffin and Edan Tickle will head to America and the West Indies for a cricket tour of a lifetime.
The Wanderers is the Australian under 18’s cricket team and Fiona Tickle, president of the Aberdeen Junior Cricket Club said the boys were thrilled to receive an invitation to be part of the team and were now frantically fundraising.
“It’s just so much experience and confidence that they’ll gain and they’ll have international managers and the coaches and they’ll be playing boys from the West Indies and there’s talk that they might meet up with the Australian team,” said Ms Tickle.
“They will also be headed to the finals of the tri-series between Australia, Africa and the West Indies, which any man would give his right arm to go to,” she said.
“The benefit to our club is when these boys come back they will be able to pass their experiences onto our club and our players,” she said.
“My son helps out with the milo in2cricket (6 to 9 year old players) so it will help him with coaching skills too,” she said.
“The community has been really supportive, we’ve run a lot of raffles, 100 clubs, we did a McDonald’s fundraiser last week in Muswellbrook, we’ve done hampers, mother’s day raffles we’ve done everything,” Fiona Tickle said.
Jake Duffin said he was looking forward to meeting new people and the new cultures he will visit.
Edan Tickle said he was looking forward to the experience of playing good cricket teams from the West Indies and America.
Both boys thanked the Aberdeen Junior Cricket Club and the community for all of their support.
The boys will leave for the tour on June 24 and return on July 11.
