Covid: Victorian – New South Wales border closed
TODAY the Victorian government has closed their borders to all New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory residents and the case numbers in Sydney climbed to 114 today.
The Premier yesterday predicted there would be more than 100 new cases announced today as key suburbs in Sydney continue to present with more cases.
Suburbs of note which were called out by the Premier included:
- Fairfield
- Smithfield
- Bossley Heights
- Fairfield West
- Wakeley
- Bonnrigg
- Glenfield
- West Hoxton
Of the 114 cases, 112 were locally acquired and 34 had continued to be be out in the community.
The Premier said New South Wales has made the decision to make the Astra Zeneca vaccine available to people 40 years and older and people should weigh the benefits and risks in light of the new outbreak.
The state government have also said they are working with pharmacies across the state to make vaccines accessible to people over 40.
Police update:
Commissioner Mick Fuller said the police had received more than 40,000 calls to CrimeStoppers since March last year and during the weekend more than 3,000 calls.
“It’s a stark reminder most of the community understand the significance of compliance,” said Commissioner Fuller.
In the past 24 hours police have issued a further 105 infringements for Covid breaches and 400 cautions.
