Woman in 30s dies – no underlying conditions

Filed in Just In by July 25, 2021

TWO people have died of covid-19 in the past 24 hours, including a woman in her late 30s with no underlying health conditions.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian said it was a reminder that the delta strain was deadly to all age groups with no underlying health conditions.

“Anyone thinking this is a disease only affecting older people, think again…younger people with no preexisting conditions can fall victim to this cruel disease,” Premier Berejiklian said.

The other person who died was a woman in her 70s.

Covid-19 case statistics:

There were 141 new cases of covid-19 identified in the past 24 hours and 38 were infectious while they were in the community.

  • 141 people are currently hospitalised
  • 43 people are in intensive care
  • 18 people are ventilated

Of the 43 people in intensive care:

  • 1 is in their teens
  • 7 are in their 20s
  • 3 are in their 30s
  • 14 are in their 50s
  • 12 are in their 60s
  • 6 are in their 70s

Only one person in intensive care had been vaccinated, but had only received one dose.

Premier Berejiklian continued to urge people to get vaccinated.

“We need to keep people out of hospitals, which the vaccines do…it also reduces the chances of them passing the disease on,” said Gladys Berejiklian.

“We can only consider that (easing restrictions) when a greater proportion is vaccinated,” she said.

“It does impact older people more and we need to protect the community, the only way we can do that is for people to be vaccinated and stop the spread.

“Delta is a cruel strain, but even one dose reduces your chances of passing your disease onto others and slows the spread,” she said.

“Everyone over the age of 18 is welcome to come and get the AstraZeneca vaccine,” Premier Berejiklian said.

Regional areas of concern:

Areas where cases have occurred or have had positive sewerage tests include: Coffs Harbour, Byron Bay, Moss Vale, Goulburn, Marulan and Orange.

A man who was a close contact and was required to self-isolate for 14 days took a Virgin flight from Sydney to Ballina on July 14 and NSW Health is now working to contact everyone on the flight to self-isolate and be tested. The man then travelled into Queensland.

Police update:

There were 510 infringement notices issued yesterday, many relating to the protest in Sydney, which police described as “violent, filthy behaviour”.

A man has been charged after punching a police horse during the protests.

A strike force has been established and the community is encouraged to upload video footage of protestors to CrimeStoppers, as police continue their investigations and expect to issue further infringements.
