Council Seeks Road Money
THE Upper Hunter Shire Council is applying for more road funding through the $691 million Fixing Local Roads program.
“It’s pubic knowledge that the biggest concern in the Upper Hunter Shire Council is rural roads and we’ve got to get outside funding to keep up with it,” said Mayor Collison.
“We will do a report and we’ll make as decision on which road, scope the work and then apply to do that particular road.
Mayor Collison said roads all local roads will be getting sequenced before Council “comes up with a road we believe worth doing.”
“There’s certainly plenty of roads round the town, Merriwa roads, Yarrandi Road in Scone, all sorts of roads deserve it.
“A lot depends on the traffic movements, which no doubt we’ll look back on data, or measure new data for.”
“The New South Wales Government had accelerated its funding to get more projects to seal, maintain and repair local roads faster,” said NSW Minister Minister for Regional Transport and Roads, Paul Toole.
“We’re not just putting our foot down in terms of delivering this package, we’re turbocharging it to ensure we create jobs and create better journeys on the roads that really matter to local communities.”
“This much-needed money for local projects will make a huge difference in people’s everyday lives right across the region,” said Member For New England, Barnaby Joyce.
“Just recently the Federal Government tipped a further $13 million into road and bridge projects across the New England.”
The second round of funding has been released this week and Council has until Friday, December 4 to apply.
