Council Lift Fire Restriction As Fuel Spill Investigation Continues
COUNCIL has lifted the fire restriction in place for residents following a fuel spill on Thursday.
Council advised there was no evidence of any significant amounts of fuel entering the Scone sewer network this morning.
The Fire and Rescue New South Wales HAZMAT team investigated the source of the spill on Thursday afternoon, tracing it back to the BP Service Station at the intersection of Guernsey Street and Kelly Street.
Council are the regulatory authority for underground petrol storage and have taken over the clean up and continuing investigation.
At this stage Council have not determined the extent of the contamination including how much fuel has leaked, when the leak began, how it got into the sewer system or the extent to which other properties may be impacted.
