Coronial Inquest Begins
THE coronial inquest into the deaths of Jonathon Lawler and Timothy Morgan begins today at Scone courthouse.
Mr Lawler was struck and killed by a train at Scone railway station at approximately 2:13am on August 30, 2010, after drinking at the Scone RSL Club and either passing out or falling asleep on the train tracks.
Mr Morgan was also struck and killed by a train at the level crossing of Liverpool Street, Scone and had also been drinking at the Scone RSL Club, before either passing out or falling asleep on the train tracks, at approximately 1:15am on December 13, 2015.
Magistrate Prowse, acting in his capacity of coroner broadened the coronial inquest into Mr Morgan’s death to include the death of Mr Lawler due to the similar circumstances surrounding their deaths.
Magistrate Prowse had implored community members to assist the inquest and said the issued to be examined included:
- whether there are systemic issues with Scone RSL contravening responsible service of alcohol guidelines and
- what if anything, could have been done to have prevented the deaths.
