Cornavirus Cases Locally
HUNTER New England Health have confirmed there are 276 of Covid-19 in the local health district.
Of those cases, six patients are being cared for in local hospitals, two patients are in intensive care and 21 people are being cared for through hospital in the home.
Dr David Durrheim, public health physician with HNEH said it is too early to know if the virus is contained in the local health district as there may be people in the community who have the disease but haven’t be tested.
“While it’s promising to see the number of confirmed cases reducing, it is too early to say we have control of COVID-19 transmission within the Local Health District,” Dr Durrheim said.
“The District can only confirm and report cases we’re aware of. It is possible there are people in the community who are unwell and potentially have COVID-19; they just haven’t been tested yet,” he said.
The Health Service is encouraging people in the Manning and East Lake Macquarie areas to be tested if they are showing signs and symptoms of the disease.
