Community laundry coming to Scone
THE Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre (SNRC) has received $19,878 of grant funding to create a community laundry, which offers a safe space for vulnerable people to access free washing machine and dryer services.
“We were excited to receive a call from Barnaby Joyce MP to inform us that we were successful with our Community Laundry grant through the sixth round of Federal funding from Stronger Communities Program,” said SNRC Manager Lee Watts.
“To be able to complete the project we also welcome financial contributions from both Joblink Plus and Scone RSL Club,” she said.
While people wash their clothes, they will be encouraged to have a conversation with the community laundry volunteers and will be able to get access to food through the Neighbourhood Centre Pantry and food van.
Opportunity exists to extend the project, through interagency collaboration, to provide resources and information on-site with potential for a kitchen and bathroom facility.
Jo Wilson, Executive Leader Joblink Plus said, “we are delighted to be a part of this important resource for our community providing much needed facilities for vulnerable people.”
“The Project is important as it is filling a gap of a service needed in our community. It is about reaching out and providing an essential service to those who are most vulnerable,” she said.
