Community Christmas Generosity
A Christmas hamper can be a wonderful gift, especially when it is for people in need.
The staff of the Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre have been heartened by the local community spirit this year which has helped keep their pantry full and allowed them to create Christmas hampers for people in our community struggling to make ends meet.
“A few years ago this service created a pantry for those in our community that needed a little help with food and essential items,” said Lee Watts, manager of the Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre.
“This community have stocked that pantry all year and a few families come in every week with one or two grocery bags to add to the shelves,” she said.
“This year we identified the need for additional support for families around Christmas time so we partnered with the Upper Hunter Shire Youth Services and put a call out for donations.
“This morning we put together Christmas hampers and presents, all donated by people in this community.
“We also received cash, gifts and a range of food items and special treats from .schools and businesses.
“Scone is very fortunate to have such caring people that are happy to share and give to those struggling at this time in their lives.
“We hope we have been able to add a little Christmas cheer to these households and a smile to the faces of the children that will now have a gift to open from under their tree Christmas morning,” she said.
“From the Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre Committee and staff Belinda, Jaala, Jan, Jess and myself we would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year,” Lee Watts said.
The Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre will close on Friday, December 22 and reopen on January 8.
