Collector’s Roadshow
THIS week Merriwa and Murrurundi residents dusted off their antique wares and took them to the antique roadshow with Tom Thompson, an antique dealer from Sydney and locals Sue Stone and Peter Carlin.
Gilly Patterson, secretary of Murrurundi Arts Council said the event was a great success.
“People came out of the wood work with all sorts of interesting treasures,” said Ms Patterson.
“There were a lot of established families with long local histories that brought in fascinating items like original land grant maps, war memorabilia and even an original unpublished poem signed by AB Patterson,” she said.
“Tom Thompson said his find of the day in Murrurundi was a magnificent French clock while in Merriwa he was gobsmacked when someone brought in an original Albert Namatjira painting and a delightful white jade lion,” he said.
“The valuers thoroughly enjoyed themselves and we will certainly do doing it again,” Gilly Patterson said.
Louise Gill, from Merriwa said she enjoyed the event.
“The Roadshow brought back lots of happy memories,” said Ms Gill.
“It didn’t really matter how much things were valued at, if they are special to you that is what is important,” she said.
“It was nice to be able to bring them in and talk about them,” Louise Gill said.
