Call for codes and masks throughout NSW
NEW restrictions are in place for people living in the greater Sydney area, while the rest of the state is being urged to wear a mask at indoor venues and businesses are being encouraged to ensure their information systems are ready for contact tracing.
At today’s media conference Premier Gladys Berejiklian said businesses needed to be vigilant in collecting data.
“We do have one of the best contact tracing teams on the planet, but they can’t trace people if they don’t have their contact details,” said Premier Berejiklian.
“I plea to everybody who runs a business, who runs an organisation you should not be letting anybody in your front door, anywhere in New South Wales for that matter, unless you have your systems in place… to get all the information of people walking through that front door,” the Premier said.
Brad Hazzard, NSW Minister for Health said fake names and numbers were ridiculous and prompted business owners using third party QR codes to know how they can obtain their data if needed.
“Some visitors to venues still think that it’s funny to put in that you are Donald Duck or Mickey Mouse or a false phone number, that must stop!” warned the Minister.
“This is a worldwide Covid pandemic and thinking that it is smart to call yourself Donald Duck or Mickey Mouse is about as stupid as it gets,” he said.
“Secondly businesses who do have QR codes and are using other than the Service NSW providers, really need to equip themselves now with the knowledge of who they call in the event that they get a call from Health.
“They need to know clearly what the data is that their provider is actually holding, so for the vast array of private providers a message to them is to make sure that each of your facilities where you have a QR code being used knows how to contact you to get the relevant data to give over to Health very quickly,” Brad Hazzard said.
