Proposed childcare changes in Scone
THE Upper Hunter Shire Council is seeking community feedback on its proposal to transfer the Out of School Hours (OOSH) service at St Mary’s Primary School in Scone to the St Nicholas OOSH organisation.
The Scone OOSH service is currently owned and managed by Council and if the proposal is approved, services will transfer to St Nicholas OOSH from July 12, 2021.
Mat Pringle, Director of Environment and Community Services said all existing employees have been given the opportunity to transfer and the service would continue to operate under the same hours, with the same fees until the end of the year.
“OOSH operates out of St Mary’s in a building that Council owns and we’re looking to transfer that building to St Nichols OOSH,” Mr. Pringle said.
“To have another provider, means that it’s a service that Council no longer needs to provide. It will allow Council to focus on other things we need to focus on,” he said.
“St Nicholas has 29 other services across the Hunter so they’re well equipped to manage these sorts of services. They are a big organisation with a lot of support,” he said.
“We’ll be putting a report back to Council at the May Council meeting, for a final decision and then the new service would be starting on the twelfth of July, all subject to Council’s decision,” said Mr. Pringle.
To provide feedback on the proposal, email council@upperhunter.nsw.gov.au, or post to PO Box 208, Scone NSW 2337.
Feedback will be taken until Monday, May 3 2021. For further information about the proposal, click here.
