Cassie Wins Gold And Silver
SCONE has a new gold medalist in Cassie Fisher, who arrived home to Scone today with a gold and silver medal after representing Australia at the International Special Needs Taekwondo Games in New Zealand.
Cassie was proud to talk about her medals, but even more enthused to talk about all the friends she met at the tournament.
“I got a gold for my pattern and a silver for mixed doubles,” said Cassie.
“I made lots of friends from Australia, America, New Zealand, England, Canada and the Netherlands,” she said.
“It was really awesome,” Cassie said.
Jill Hamling, from Showstoppers, accompanied Cassie and said she was incredibly proud of her achievements.
“I’m so proud of her, I was surprised when they announced she had won the gold, I was shaking and in tears, I was just so very proud,” said Ms Hamling.
“It was mind-blowing to see how confident she was up on the podium and doing the pattern,” she said.
“It was a big learning curve because Cas and I have only been doing it since March this year and she was up against people who had been doing it for quite a few years,” she said.
“This was the first tournament for Taekwondo and the next will be in the Netherlands in 2021, so we are hoping to get her business going and generate some sponsorship to go,” she said.
“That’s what it is all about, helping her become as independent as possible,” Jill Hamling said.
