Caravan to Help Homeless
WHEN Lee Watts, manager of the Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre heard the Council was auctioning off old caravans used at work sites, she saw an opportunity to help the homeless.
Last night at the Council meeting a motion was passed to donate the caravan to the Centre.
“We have such a need for emergency accommodation here I thought it would be perfect,” said Ms Watts.
“Five or six times recently we have tried to find emergency accommodation and there has just been none available, but if we can do up the caravan we have a place for someone to stay the night and then the next day we can connect them with other services,
“It’s in a fairly sad state at the moment, it doesn’t have a bed and we’ll have to gut the inside of it and redo it, but it is a start and I am hoping people in the community will be able to help with their skills or donate items for the van
“It wouldn’t be suitable for someone in a domestic violence situation, but it would be for a single male and they are the majority of people we have come to us for help,
“We also still have to sort out where we will locate it and there is a lot of work that needs to be done on it but I’m sure with some help we can make it happen,” she said.
“The one thing we have decided on is that we want it brightly coloured,” laughed Lee Watts.
