Burning Mountain Holiday Tour
THIS Saturday July 8, the New South Wales National Parks and Wildlife Service will be running a holiday discovery tour at a the significant local landmark, Burning Mountain.
The tour will run between 1pm and 3pm at the Burning Mountain Nature Reserve north of Wingen and is an easy grade walk suitable for children over 5 years old.
Shani Milgate is the Discovery Coordinator for this area with the National Parks and Wildlife Service and has organised the discovery tour to look at Australia’s only natural burning coal seam and how animals and plants have adapted around the environment.
“Burning Mountain Nature Reserve is a special place and home to Australia’s only naturally Burning coal seem, anybody interested in the story of what’s going on below the Mountain won’t be disappointed this Saturday,” Shani Milgate said.
“Join a National Parks and Wildlife Discovery Ranger for a two hour guided afternoon adventure to the viewing platform located at the climax of the Burning Mountain walk, from there you can view the exhaust vents and rocks transformed by extreme temperatures over time.
“They will discover how the plants and animals have adapted to life around this 5,500 year old burning coal seam and it will be lots of fun for everyone so bring along your binoculars, drinking water and snacks and please wear fully enclosed walking shoes for safety,”
