Book Set In Scone
MORE than 30 people were at the Scone library on Saturday for the book launch of The Reluctant Jillaroo by Kaz Delaney, which is set in Scone.
After several visits to Scone the author was inspired to set her novel here.
Her daughter once taught in Scone on her first appointment out of university, she had been to two of her nephew’s weddings in Scone and she had attended the Scone literary weekend.
“I had several trips north to do my research and I found the people to be as warm and welcoming as the horses who brayed their greetings as we drove past,” said Ms Delaney.
“And I fell in love,” she said.
“I was also honoured to be asked to give the International Women’s Day address for the Upper Hunter back in March, which was also held in Scone.
“So you can see that this place is becoming more and more special to me.
“Amazingly, when the Upper Hunter Council organisers asked me to speak for International Women’s Day, they had no idea that my next novel was in fact set in their own backyard!
“And they were thrilled!”
“So thrilled that they offered to help launch this book, ‘The Reluctant Jillaroo’,” said Kaz Delaney.
The book is suitable for readers years 10 of age and older.
The is a mystery, some romance and of course horses.
At the launch two fans of Ms Delaney’s work, Madelaine Rose and Prunella Hayes wrote reviews of the book which they read out.
Elizabet Walter, library coordinator for the Upper Hunter Shire said Ms Delaney was always a popular visitor.
Kaz Delaney also conducted a creative writing workshop at Murrurundi library after the launch in Scone.
The Reluctant Jillaroo is published by Allen & Unwin and can be purchased through Hunt-A-Book in Kelly Street Scone.
The events were sponsored by the Upper Hunter Shire Libraries’ Author and Literacy Program.
