Birds Get Savvier

THE first Savvy Birds event was a great success, with the event in Scone drawing the same number of women as their events in Tamworth.

Dimity Smith, co-founder of Savvy Birds said the feedback from the more than 50 women who attended had been amazing.

“We couldn’t believe that many people in Scone came to the event and that there was such a diverse group of women from teachers, lawyers, cleaners, retail and dairy farmers there were women from all kinds of backgrounds,” said Ms Smith.

“The format worked really well being in groups to hear each speaker and everyone got involved asking lots of questions sitting together and bouncing ideas,” she said.

“It really sparked interest in women to get a plan and everyone I spoke to said they were booking an appointment with one of the speakers to sort out their will, or super or diet plan,” she said.

“It was just really fun and I felt smarter from just being there and listening to the speaker, the structure was lively and fun,” Dimity Smith said.

The only man in the room as Butch Smith, a dairy farmer of more than 40 years and father of Dimity Smith who organised the event.

“I was extremely nervous and I sat at the back,” he laughed.

“After speaking with Jane Ryan I realised our business needs to a bit more budgeting and there is still plenty to learn,” he said.

“And with Karen realising that burn out is probably not too far down the track as far as my health is concerned so I need to sort that out,” he said.

“Talking with some of the ladies here tonight they’ve all taken something away with them, to be able to pick the brains of people who know what they are doing and it’s amazing how much you go away and think about things,” he said.

“It helps know what questions to ask the bank and get you on track a bit more, you leave with plenty to think about and it was a fun group of people,” Butch Smith said.
