Angel Breeds Hope with 300th Joey
THE Tasmanian devil breeding facility at Barrington Tops is the great hope for the survival of the species and Angel has been a God send to the program producing the 300th joey for the program.
Devils can breed four joeys and Angel, who is four years old, has produced a record 12 healthy joeys for the Ark.
Tim Faulkner, president of Devil Ark said, “Angel has always been a star at the Devil Ark.”
“She has never failed to surprise us with the amount of joeys she has each year,” he said.
“Angel has single handed bought 12 joeys into our program, which is a big deal,” he said.
“We can never have too many Tasmanian devils and to have such consistency from our female devils is fantastic,” Tim Faulkner said.
The four joeys Angel has given birth to this year will be her last and once her joeys are old enough to detach she will be moved to a yard with other retired females to enjoy life in the Barrington.
The Devil Ark now holds 52% of the mainland insurance population, which started from 44 animals.
