Council Approves Petrol Station

LAST night Council approved a development application for a service station on the corner of Macqueen Street and McAdam Street, Aberdeen.

The vacant block which was approved by Council for a service station.

The proposal for the service station includes a convenience store measuring 9.8m x 20.2m x 5.5m high, a forecourt area, eight car spaces, landscaping and signage.

Requirements of the development include:

• a ‘channelised right turn with an auxiliary left turn‘ at the intersection of the New England Highway and McAdam Street, which was the main stipulation of the Roads and Maritime Services;
• a 1.5m wide concrete footpath to be built for the full McAdam Street frontage;
• operating hours for the first three months will be 5am – 12 midnight and after the first three months will be 6am – 10pm;
• all vehicular access to the development must be from McAdam Street, and
• vehicles are restricted to left out only onto the New England Highway.

Cr Michael Johnsen put forward an amendment to the consent that if the service station is not used for a period of two years, the fuel outlets be decommissioned and rehabilitation of the land initiated, which was passed.

The applicant was Nick Sialepis Investments Pty Ltd and the owner is listed as T. Henry.
