Veteran Gets Mobile
ATHOL Rose a veteran of WWII was accompanied by his grandson Robert and great grandson Dylan in yesterday’s ANZAC Day parade in Scone.
Mobility for our aging veterans is an issue and often getting on and off buses or in and out of cars is difficult, instead Athol decided to test out some other wheels and borrowed a mobility scooter from the Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre and participate in the parade under his own steam.
Lee Watts, manager of the Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre said the scooter is available from the Centre for members of the community try a mobility scooter before making the decision to purchase one, or to borrow if they have an issue with their own scooter.
“We usually hire the scooter, but for Athol it is fantastic that he wanted to use the scooter to be in the parade so we gave it to him for the day,” said Mrs Watts.
“They are great for older people like Athol that do find it hard to get around, but want to maintain their independence for as long as possible,” she said.
“We also often rent out the battery from the scooter we have at the centre, when local people have an issue with the battery on their own scooter until they can get it fixed,” Lee Watts said.
