A few drops of rain didn’t deter the Scone juniors, who came ready to train.

There were also a number of new players keen to participate in skills and drills, and walked away dirty, sweaty and keen to come back for more.

Tor Killman, president of Scone Junior Rugby Union said, “We had another great turnout, it’s great to see some new players come down and give rugby a go.”

“The kids have a great time with their mates, and even the parents enjoy the social atmosphere at the club,” he said.

Many of the Under-10 and Under-12 players were away, travelling north for the Northern Inland Academy of Sport’s National Primary Games in Tamworth and TAS Rugby Carnival in Armidale this weekend.

The Under-10s are fielding a team at the National Primary Games, while Scone Junior Rugby Union Central North representative players are attending the TAS Rugby Carnival, along with a team from Scone Grammar School.

The National Primary Games is a two day event, with teams from across the country participating in a wide variety of sports, while the TAS Rugby Carnival is the largest primary aged rugby carnival in Australia, attracting more than 1000 young rugby players each year.

“The Games and Carnival are a great opportunity for the Under-10s and Under- 12s to play against teams from all over Australia,” Mr Killman said.

“The experience is invaluable leading into the 2016 season,” said Tor Killman.

The Central North Rugby competition starts on May 1 at Walcha.
