Fire Controlled – Warning Issued

A grass fire at the back of Attunga Stud has been put out.

The fire began as a back-burning operation, but got out of control burning approximately 25 acres.

Three fire trucks and crews attended including two from Kingdon Ponds and one from Moobi.

Andrew Luke, superintendent zone manager for Liverpool Range Rural Fire Service said it was a good reminder that the conditions in the Upper Hunter are very dry and why the bush danger period for area have been extended until April 30.

“We went from a lovely growing season to a horrid dry season and there is loads and loads of dry fuels available for fire to burn,” said Mr Luke.

“People are encouraged to do back burning operations, but they need to be extra vigilant and undertake all precautions on their property, having good breaks, not taking your eyes off the fire and having a current permit,” he said.

“As soon as people have concerns or feel uncomfortable about the fire we encourage them to call 000 immediately, we would much prefer to be called out to a small fire than one that is much bigger and threatening property,” Andrew Luke said.

The bushfire danger period for our area the Upper Hunter Liverpool Plains and Gunnedah have been extended for an extra month, until April 30 due to the dry conditions.

Any person lighting a fire in the open is required to have a written fire permit.
