Barwick Brothers Help Ambulance
A legacy of Percy and Sydney Barwick became a reality on Sunday with the opening of a training room at the Scone ambulance station.
Trainers from trauma, stroke teams, other ambulance stations and other local emergency services will be able to use the new rooms for a range of important training sessions.
The opening coincided with the bi-annual Barwick reunion, with many of Percy and Syd’s family in attendance.
The new facility was made possible through a bequest, in the order of $200,000, following the sale of the Barwick’s property near Bunnan.
Additional donations were made to the Scott memorial Hospital, TransCare, Westpac Rescue Helicopter, Strathearn and the Salvation Army.
NSW Ambulance Executive Director of Clinical Services, Alan Loudfoot attended the opening and said the donation was significant for the service.
“Sydney and Percy Barwick were obviously very civic minded people who loved their community and valued the work of local emergency services and care providers,” Mr Loudfoot said.
“These donations to both NSW Ambulance and other local organisations have ensured that Scone residents for generations to come will benefit greatly from this parting gift to the local community,” he said.
“We were greatly honoured by the presence of so many members of the extended Barwick family at today’s ceremony, and greatly appreciated the chance to extend our sincere thanks for this exceedingly generous donation.
“This new multi-purpose facility comes as a welcome addition to our presence in the local community and will see paramedics serving here now and well into the future directly benefit from the Barwick family’s largess,” he said.
“NSW Ambulance extends its sincere thanks to Sydney and Percy Barwick and their family for this remarkable gesture,” Alan Loudfoot said.
