Cricket Grand Final 2016
THE Golden Fleece Warriors won the Upper Hunter Cricket grand final against Rouchel on Saturday, with both teams agreeing the game could have gone either way.
James Spicer said he was glad the whole Warriors team was on deck for the win.
“They were on top of us for the first 30 overs when batting and looked like they would take it out, but we took a few quick wickets and we crawled back,” he said.
“It was a good feeling,” James Spicer said.
Josh Noble scored his second consecutive century for the Warrior’s which helped secure the win.
Steven Clydsdale said it was the 35 runs off the last three overs which took the game away from Rouchel.
“It was 0 for 64 but we then lost 5 for 5 from the 16th to the 20th which we didn’t recover from,” he said.
“We had an excellent year and Nat Atkinson was a standout all year, but got 8 overs for 11 runs during the grand final which was brilliant.
“It was a good season all ‘round for Upper Hunter cricket, between the 11 teams it has been a close competition all year,” said Steven Clydsdale.
In the B grade competition Aberdeen defeated Murrurundi and Garry Latham said the Aberdeen Club was proud of how both of their teams performed throughout the season.
“We had a mixed season but after Christmas we started getting a few wins and managed to take out the grand final,” said Mr Latham.
“The grand final was like an arm wrestling match, which could have gone either way,” he said.
“We took out the B grade grand final and the A grade were the minor premiers,” he said.
“It was great to take it out for the Club,” Garry Latham said.
