Sale Records Smashed
THE Inglis Classic sale ended how it began, on a high and Upper Hunter breeders reaped the rewards.
Sledmere Stud secured the top spot today, selling a colt by Written Tycoon and Zals for $305,000 to the China Horse Club and American based Winstar Farm, which will race under Peter Snowden.
Treen and Royston Murphy, of Sledmere also sold a colt by Pins x Da Vinci Code for their client New Zealand’s Little Avondale Stud to Carmel Size for $260,000.
“We’ve been delighted with our sale; we’ve cleared 100 percent and it’s just proven that if you support this sale and bring the right product it’s a very good sale with just rewards,” said Mr Murphy.
“We’ve aimed at this sale for the last few years and we’ve had great results,” he said.
“It’s a credit to Inglis.
“Vendors are getting rewarded for bringing the right types of horses here,” Royston Murphy said.
Sharing the second spot with Sledmere was Yarraman Park who also sold a colt for $260,000.
The colt was by Hinchinbrook x Carlton Ace and was sold to James Harron Bloodstock.
Murrulla Stud in Wingen also sold a colt for $260,000 to YuLong Investments, by I Am Invincible x Docherty Woods.
YuLong Investments purchased 11 yearlings in total for $1,129,500, nine being by I Am Invincible.
Vendors enjoyed a 90 percent clearance rate, the average sale price increased by 37 percent from last year to $57,426 and a median jump of 47 percent to $44,000.
St Aubin’s a small stud on the outskirts of Scone, were pleased with the sale price for their colts, said manager Alistair Fraser.
“We were very happy it was a great sale and they made the money we felt they should,” said Mr Fraser.
“The buyers got nice horses and as St Aubin’s we are thrilled and we wish them all the best,” he said.
“We’ve done our job, the buyers have found them and now it’s their job to make them into great race horses.
One colt by Command x Tide sold for $50,000 to YuLong Investments and the other Teofilo by Fain sold for $80,000 and will go to New Zealand,” Alistair Fraser said.
Mr Fraser said while the horses deserved the money, the market was becoming tougher to buy a nice horse.
“The colt Teofilo coped well during the sale and he got better as the sales went on, which is a good sign for a young horse; I would have bought him, his demeanour was lovely,” he said.
“But it’s tougher to find a nice horse and be able to buy it, because everyone else finds it as well,” Alistair Fraser said.
