OPENING a business on Mayne Street, Murrurundi has just become easier, with Council rezoning sections of the northern and central business district from residential to mixed use.

The rezoning is the culmination of 20 months of consultation and planning resulting in the legal change.

Mayor Wayne Bedggood said the rezoning meant supported more flexibility and opportunity for development in Murrurundi.

“Council has listened to residents’ concerns about the 2013 Local Environmental Plan (LEP) and found a better fit for Murrurundi, which the NSW Government has agreed to,” Cr Bedggood said.

“The town already has a number of businesses and small shops along that stretch of the highway, and the rezoning should encourage a diverse mix of land uses to support Murrurundi’s village character and appeal,” Mayor Bedggood said.

The amendment also changes building heights and floor space ratios.
