Scone Mountain fire – Thursday

ALTHOUGH only a sprinkle of rain has made its way to Scone, the cooler conditions and cloud cover are a welcome relief for firefighters and residents.

Fire fighters are on the fire ground today focused on identifying hot-spots within the burn area and extinguishing areas of concern.

Ground crews are supported by helicopters which are identifying smoking trees, small fires in gullies and bucketing inaccessible country.

The aim is to get the fire set to out, before the heat returns on Monday.

The Rural Fire Service said since this fire many Scone residents have realised they need a fire plan and they encourage people to get the checklist from the website or see their community liaison officer who is at Scone Woolworths until 4:30pm today.

The NSW Rural Fire Service wanted to thank the community of Scone for their support throughout the fire.

“We really want the community know how much we appreciate their support for our firefighters,” said Shellie Smyth.

“Community members and business owners have dropped off food, water and other donations to our fire fighters, which is really heartwarming and so appreciated by the RFS,” she said.

“We had many strike teams from out of area travel here and they were all so well cared for throughout this campaign,” she said.

“Our crews have undertaken a difficult job with this fire, but it was made easier by the amazing support we received,” Ms Smyth said.
