Wilson Memorial Oval gets green light
THE long-awaited Wilson Memorial Oval upgrades will begin today, starting with the demolition of the old grandstand.
Old trees either side of the grandstand will also be removed, in preparation for the replacement grandstand.
Upgrades will include the installation of two change rooms with showers, a referee’s change room, new canteen and bar facilities, storage space, new toilet amenities and oval-facing grandstand seating for 160 people.
Upper Hunter Shire Council has awarded the $537,000 tender for the construction of the new canteen and change rooms to The Flying Builder and the grandstand demolition will be undertaken by Husky Group.
Council has already obtained $526,000 from the NSW Government Safer Country Communities Fund and will seek further grant funding to complete the remaining stages.
The next stage of the project will include the interior fit out, landscaping, electrical supply and new grandstand.
To deliver the new grandstand and lighting upgrades, Council will seek $60,000 and $275,000 from the COVID-19 Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Fund.
