Hunter Expressway Closed Following Truck Accident
THE Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to the Hunter Expressway this morning at approximately 7am, to attend to a 55-year-old male chest suffering from chest and head injuries after he crashed a semi trailer.
The driver left the expressway on the Buchanan interchange and was treated on the scene by the aircraft doctor and critical care paramedic who assisted ambulance road crews, before being transported to the John Hunter Hospital by road ambulance in a serious condition.
The Hunter Expressway eastbound lanes were closed at 8:45am traffic has been diverted to the M1 Pacific Motorway and John Renshaw Drive.
Since then, one eastbound lane has been reopened under a reduced speed limit to allow traffic crews to clean up debris scattered across the expressway.
