Westpac: Snake Bite Call Out

Filed in Just In by August 29, 2020

THE Westpac Rescue Helicopter has been called on the first snake bite mission of the season, a reminder the days are becoming warm enough for snakes to become active again.

A 51 year old man was bush walking in Seal Rocks when he was bitten by a death adder.

Due to the remote location, the man walked for 20 minutes to the Treachery Camp Ground to get mobile phone reception and contact emergency services.

Just after midday the Westpac team were called, while local ambulance paramedics arrived and commenced treatment.

The man was stablised and flown to the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.

Please note experts warn people should immobilise immediately after a snake bite and commence first aid and bushwalkers are encouraged not to walk alone.
