Call For Public Submissions – Dartbrook Mine
TODAY the Independent Planning Commission (IPC) called for public submissions on the ‘Modification 7 Response To Contentions‘ to reopen Dartbrook Coal Mine, after Australian Pacific Coal (APC) appealed against the IPC decision to not grant a five-year licence extension.
APC said the five year licence extension was necessary to recommission the mine however, in August 2019, the IPC extended the licence for three years, allowing the mine to operate only until December 2022 instead of December 2027.
While the IPC granted approval for modifications to bord-and-pillar operations as part of the 2019 decision, they rejected the licence extension based on “principles of ecologically sustainable development or inter-generational equity; and, as such, is not in the public interest”.
After conciliation with IPC, APC has responded to the concerns, through the Modification 7 Response To Contentions.
Public submissions on the response are open until 5pm on Friday September 4, 2020 and can be made via email to: ipcn@ipcn.nsw.gov.au
