COVID-19: QLD Closes Border to NSW On Saturday
QUEENSLAND Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced the State will close it’s borders to New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory, effective from 1 am this Saturday, August 8.
Premier Palaszczuk said the decision was made after continuous Queensland border breaches.
“As we know, there have been a large number of active cases in Victoria and we are continuing to see cases in New South Wales, this is a very concerning situation,” the Premier said.
“I can now confirm that our Chief Health officer is declaring New South Wales and the ACT a hot spot,” she said.
“This will take immediate effect from Saturday at 1 am and this is the right thing to do,” she said.
“We’re not going to wait for New South Wales to get worse, we need to act…we cannot risk a second wave,” said the Premier.
All visitors from declared hot spots will be denied entry and only residents of border communities and essential workers, such as truck drivers, will be able to cross the border.
Queenslanders wishing to return home will have to pay for 14 days mandatory hotel quarantine.
The border closure will be reviewed at the end of the month.
