Aberdeen Saves Scone from Boiling
THE Upper Hunter Shire Council has advised Scone and Murrurundi residents no longer need to boil water, since water from the Hunter River in Aberdeen is now supplying both Scone and Murrurundi with drinkable water.
On Friday night, when Council announced the Scone water had to be boiled, they began pumping water from Aberdeen to Aberdeen using an old pipeline and delivering Aberdeen water by truck to Murrurundi.
The Aberdeen water is now in the Scone and Murrurundi water networks and is safe to drink.
Council also report algae levels at Glenbawn Dam have dropped and they will soon be able to the drawn from higher points in the Dam “in the near future.”
To prevent water issues in the future Council plan to use funding they have received from the state government to implement a UV disinfection system and additional pre-chlorination treatment upgrades within the next 12 months.
Council also plan to seek funding to construct a water treatment plant.
