Bypass Ready For Easter Traffic

WHILE the Scone bypass was scheduled for completion at the end of this year, it is on track to be opened before Easter.

Tony Gant, director of projects for the Hunter, Transport NSW presented an update on the bypass, at a meeting organised by Council and the Scone Chamber of Commerce on the main street revitalisation.

“We are well and truly on the home stretch,” said Mr Gant.

“Traffic will be on the bypass by Easter,” he said.

“The drought has caused problems for the rest of the country, it’s been a silver lining for road projects,” he said.

“The project has gone really well, the contractor has been really good, the Council have been really good and everything we’ve had to do up here has gone well,” he said.

“The bridges are finished and are ready for the final surfacing layer of asphalt, signs and landscaping are underway and the focus in now tying the bypass to the existing roadwork,” he said.

The signage, done in consultation with Council, a 4.2m by 4.2m, with an image of the mare and foal.

Later in the meeting a resident asked why the sign did not have Horse Capital of Australia?

While, the signs are now in production and can not be modified, Council still has the opportunity to include the tagline on signs at the town’s entrance.

There are plans for a community opening of the bypass, in which residents will be able to walk down a section of the bypass before it is opened to traffic.
