Scone Golf Report: January 11

COOLER conditions were appreciated by the Scone golfers on Saturday, January 11. The early players had a hot start with the temperature in the 30’s until a southerly hit at 7.40am. The rest of the day stayed in the mid 20’s but players had to content with the wind with gusts over 50 km per hour.

A strong field of 40 players contested an Individual and 2 Ball Worst Ball Stableford which requires the lowest score of the pair to be recorded on each hole! The winners of the Jeff Harrington and Tony O’Neill Trophy were Brad Baker and Jake Teague who had 30 points. Individually they had 42 and 38 points respectively. They nudged out five pairs who finished with 29 points!

Grade prizes were also distributed by Jeff and Tony and these went to James Smart in A Grade who had 36 points to win on a countback from Warren Styles. B Grade went to John Roe on 38 points and C Grade also required a countback, with Russell Nicholls beating George Campbell when they both had the best scores of the day, 43 points.

Saturday was also Round 1 of the Summer Shield which is the best 3 out of 4 rounds. Round 2 is on next Saturday, and rounds 3 and 4 are on February 8 and 29.

Balls went to Russell Nicholls, George Campbell 43, Brad Baker 42, Tony O’Neill 39, Jake Teague, John Roe 38, Jock O’Connor, Brad Hockley 37, Scott Reid, James Smart, Warren Styles, George Davidson, Paul Smart, Harry Mitchell 36, David Druce and Clayton Rogers 35 points.

The NTP’s were won by Brennan Reeves on the 4^th / 13^th with a shot to 2.27 metres whilst Neil Clydsdale won the 8^th / 17^th at 4.3 metres.

Next Saturday, January 18, an 18 Hole Stableford will be played from the white tees for the David Bradshaw & Rod Vaughan Trophy. It will also be Round 2 of the Summer Shield.

Entries for the Summer Eclectic will close on Saturday, February 1. All eligible rounds from the start of December will be included. The Eclectic will end on the last Saturday in May.

The Club has entered two teams (A Grade and Seniors) in the Hunter River DGA Pennant series which commence on Sunday, February 2.

In the 9 Hole Yellow Tee Challenge on Wednesday, January 8, the best scores of the twelve players were by those who returned before the southerly wind hit. The winner was Craig Waugh who had 26 points. Great to see the greenkeeper checking out the course from a players’ perspective! The runner up was Col Solway on 23 points. Everyone is welcome in this competition with registrations and payment to be made in the club prior to playing. Handicaps are allocated by the organizers and are revised weekly.

The ladies 9 Hole Stableford competition will resume on Thursday, January 16 at 8am, playing for the Asser House voucher. Many of the lady golfers have been having a break so there will be lots to catch up on during the round and post-game at the café.
