ADFAS night with Andrew Prince: Trying On the Jewels!
A DAZZLING night was had by all when the Australian Decorative and Fine Arts Society (ADFAS) invited famous jewellery designer, Andrew Prince to Scone.
More than fifty lucky people attended Mr Prince’s seminar at the Arts and Crafts hall last Tuesday and for the first time on the ADFAS tour, all were given permission to touch and wear the exquisite jewellery he bought with him.
The ‘no-touch’ rule was replaced with ‘please try me on’ when Mr Prince showcased his handcrafted tiara’s, necklaces, earrings, and hairpieces from the Downton Abbey TV show.
A wealth of knowledge, Mr Prince discussed how monarchs and rulers would transport their precious jewels and belongings, most of which were made out of pure gold and silver.
The crowd was captivated by his extensive explanations of castles, carriages and the people travelling inside them.
He made note of the sheer discomfort experienced by the upper class in these carriages, with an example of a well-worn, velvet portable toilet.
The night summed up by one quote from the immaculately dressed Mr Prince, who exclaimed, “minimal jewelry is pointless jewelry!”
