Murulla Causeway Proposal

Filed in Recent News by April 9, 2019

THE Murrurundi community is being asked their opinions on an upgrade to the one lane Murulla Street causeway to have a two lane concrete bridge across the Pages River, with two designs ready for feedback.

View the two options: Murulla Bridge.

The new bridge is lower in one design to cause less visual impact on the Swinging Bridge which was built in 1927 and an option where the bridge is higher to provide better access when the river levels are higher.

The causeway is frequently in need of repair and often closed when the River is up the new proposal is projected to cost of $1.2 million, of which Council has secured $1.15 million in grant funding.

The upgrades will require the Swinging Bridge and causeway to be closed from October this year until mid next year and the bridge which was built in 1927 will be protected during the proposed work.

Consultants, engaged by Council, have completed geo-technical investigations and a Review of Environmental Factors including the heritage and visual impact.

Submissions can be made to Council via email: council@upperhunter.nsw.gov.au or in writing to: PO Box 208, Scone. NSW. 2337.

Submissions close on May 10.
