Breakfast Van for Scone
NEXT year school children in Scone will be able to grab a bite of breakfast on their way to school from a new food van run by the Scone Nieghbourhood Resource Centre.
Lee Watts, manager of the Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre Manager, said they were excited to be able to cater for local children.
“Students will be able to grab a free healthy breakfast, something nutritious each morning to re-fuel for the busy school day ahead,” said Mrs Watts.
“This year has been really tough for many families in this area and with a challenging environment for the Neighbourhood Centre to secure grants we didn’t think we had a look in when applying for a mobile van,” she said.
“However we took the initiative to apply for part of the funds through the Stronger Community Programs grant and approached Joblink Plus who we work closely with on an ongoing basis supporting the community to also assist with the project,” Lee Watts said.
The van will begin catering when school returns next year.
The Centre is looking for volunteers to be on a roster in the van, if you can help phone the Centre on: 02 6545 2562.
