Christmas Carols Lift Community Spirit

Filed in Recent News by December 12, 2018

ON Sunday night the community gathered for the annual Christmas Carols at Strathearn.

More than 150 people pulled out a deck chair, sat on a picnic rug or hang out in a tree and sang along to carols led by the Scone Singers.

Janelle Birch, volunteer coordinator for Strathearn Aged Care said it was another lovely event which made their residents feel part of the community.

“It was a lovely evening, perhaps a little bit hot to begin with but it was lovely watching all of the families with the residents,” said Mrs Birch.

“It is important for the residents to feel they remain part of the community and they can catch up with people,” she said.

“It is impossible for all of the residents to travel to carols, so this enables them to enjoy the music, be with their families and socialise in our grounds,” she said.

“The grounds are nice a secure and comfortable for everyone and a great way to enjoy the Christmas season,” Janelle Birch said.

It is a community effort, the Lions Club provide the BBQ, Strathearn provide the venue and refreshments, the Scone Singers sing the carols, Barry Blume-Poulton brings the music, Margaret Wicks helps to coordinate the carols.
