Students Shine at Tournament of the Minds
KIM Wilson, principal of St Mary’s Primary School in Scone said she was extremely proud of six local students who competed in the Tournament of the Minds program at the University of New South Wales on the weekend.
“The tournament is part of a gifted student program and it was incredible to see our students perform so well,” said Ms Wilson.
“They won the Hunter region, competing against 27 other schools across public and private schools and were then one of 12 schools from all areas of the state to compete in Sydney,” she said.
“The students elected to work in the arts category and it was wonderful to watch all of the performances from the best in the state and see our children do so well,” she said.
“They were certainly a crowd favourite on the day and what we were most proud of was the way the children interacted with each other,” she said.
“They were locked in a room for three hours together to prepare a performance and address key learning criteria and problem solving, without the help of any adults,” she said.
“The performances which really stood out were the ones where the students all shone and worked together well as a team,” she said.
“It was a wonderful experience for our children to perform at such a high level and also play theatre sports in a packed auditorium at the University, it definitely builds confidence and our students did them selves and our region proud,” Kim Wilson said.
