2018 Australia Day Activities

AUSTRALIA Day will be celebrated across the Upper Hunter with award ceremonies in Aberdeen, Merriwa, Murrurundi and Scone. There will be free pool entry in the afternoon at Scone, Merriwa and Murrurundi and the annual 7s a side gala cricket day at the Bill Rose Complex in Scone.

Cricket: Everyone is welcome to play cricket at the Bill Rose Sports Complex. Registrations close at 8am and morning play begins at 9am. There will be a full canteen and BBQ with a presentation held at the Scone RSL.

CEREMONIES:

Aberdeen:

  • Ambassador: Todd Greenberg, chief executive officer, National Rugby League
  • 1pm: Lunch and presentation of Australia Day Awards. Lunch is $15 and bookings can be made on 6543 7141.

Merriwa:

  • Ambassador: Catherine DeVrye, author.
  • 10:30am – Merriwa Sports Club, King George V Avenue. Australia Day Awards Ceremony followed by a free barbecue and lamingtons.

Murrurundi:

  • Ambassador:Karen Banton, chief executive officer, Bernie Banton Foundation and Greg Donovan, founder of Born to Run.
  • From 8.00am – Wilson Memorial Oval:
    • 8am – Murra County Markets
    • 10am – Grand Parade from Rosedale Complex – remember to enter a float!
    • Entertainment by Pat Drummond.
    • 11am – Australia Day Awards Ceremony

Scone:

  • Ambassador: Todd Greenberg, chief executive officer, National Rugby League.
  • 10.30 am at Council Chambers, 135 Liverpool Street, Scone: Australian Citizenship Ceremony, Australia Day Awards, Scone RSL Pipes and Drums, Scone Singers and refreshments by Scone Country Women’s Association.
