Update: Murrurundi and Moonan Fires
FIRE fighters have downgraded the fire, approximately three kilometres south of Murrurundi, to patrol and a fire at Moonan is also under control.
“At Murrurundi it’s pretty much smouldering, we’ve been across this morning and had a look in the chopper and our intent today is between both of the choppers to bomb that,” said Myles O’Reilly, district coordinator for the Liverpool Range Fire Service.
“We’ll go into a patrol or monitoring phase with it to make sure there is no more flare ups, but we’re quite confident with that one at the moment, there will still be a bit of smoke rising from it,” he said.
“It is only about a hectare, so in the big scheme of things it is relatively small which is good,” he said.
“If there are any active edges, we’ll look at using one of the choppers to knock it down,” he said.
“The Moonan fire is also a small fire, which crews have under control,” Mr O’Reilly said.
