Fair Trading and Fairer Internet Access
ON Friday the National Broadband Network and Fair Trading will be the focus of discussion at a luncheon held by the Country Women’s Association in Scone.
There will be information on the progress of the National Broadband Network for Scone residents and the New South Wales Department of Fair Trading will provide information on knowing your sopping rights and being scam aware.
Lyn Tout, president of the Scone Country Women’s Association said the internet access and scam awareness were important issues for many people in the country.
“At the moment we can see them doing work for the NBN, but if anyone is like me they don’ know when we will be able to access it and how to go about connecting,” said Ms Tout.
“One of our focal points is trying to encourage small businesses and I think if you haven’t got a reliable computer network and can use it, it really puts you at a disadvantage and that is one thing rural people experience whether it is their mobile phone network or their computer network sometimes it’s very difficult to get access and since so much is online these days it does put you at a disadvantage,” she said.
“And I think everyone would have experienced a scam phone call be it on your mobile phone or on your landline and people do get concerned if they hear they have a tax debt, but it is important to know how these organisations will contact you and be able to identify a scam,” she said.
“They should be two very interesting speakers,” Lyn Tout said.
