Double British Acts
THE Scone Community Amateur Dramatic Society are rehearsing two plays for performances in September, both British, both comedies and both described as delightful by director Phil Charley.
The first play “Lunch Hour” is by John Mortimer, who was best known for the TV series Rumpole of the Bailey and the second “Better Off Dead” is by Harold Brooke and Kay Bannerman a husband and wife writing team who were West End playwrights in the 1960’s.
“They are two delightful British comedies in true theatrical tradition,” said Mr Charley.
“Over the years I’ve directed quite a few murder mystery slash comedy type plays because I like those but there seems to be a consensus within SCADS and the community that there is a strong appreciation for British style comedies so this time I’ve intentionally looked for those,” he said.
“I think it will be a really good night of theatre,” Phil Charley said.
This season some familiar faces will return to the stage and will be joined by two newcomers, two students from St Joseph’s High School Mady Warren and Ellie Tilse.
“It’s good having the young people in the group and having some new people,” said Mr Charley.
“One thing which is also notable this time around is that Miles Noonan is helping with the direction as assistant director, he had a key role in the play last year and has expressed an interest in directing which is really great to have people coming through in that role,” Phil Charley said.
Other actors include Patrick Wild, Maria English, Di Van Balen, Pieternella Jarvie and Tina Hyland.
The plays will be held over four weekends, giving people plenty of time to catch a performance.
