ST JOSEPH’S High School of Aberdeen is travelling to the Royal Queensland Show to exhibit cattle, affectionately known as Ekka from the show’s previous name of Brisbane Exhibition.

Fourteen students ranging from year 8 to year 11 are excited and looking forward to taking their animals to Ekka this Saturday for next weeks event.

Lisa Bright, Agricultural Teacher at St Joseph’s, along with the students held a showcase last week for the producers who donated the animals as a thankyou to them because not all the producers are able to make it to Brisbane.

“We are going to the Ekka on Saturday, so what we did last week was have a showcase where we invite the breeders in to come and have a look at their cattle before they go, it gives the team of kids and the cattle a chance at a dress rehearsal before they go away,” Lisa Bright said.

“A lot of the time producers can’t get to Brisbane to have a look at them in the ring so this was a good opportunity for them to come in and have a bit of a look.

“We will be away for the week next week, we have fourteen students from year 8 to year 11 and we have 9 animals we are taking, all of the animals are from local breeders, the Clydesdale’s and the Sinderberry’s are from Rouchel and Hayden and Greg Cox are from out at Bunnan,” Lisa Bright said.
