Murrurundi Art Prize Success

JENNY Vaughan an artist from  Timor won Murrurundi Art Prize best in show for her painting “Filling the Dam Once Again”.

Judge John Bradley felt the title of the painting matched its essence.

Mandy Archibald, president of Murrurundi Arts and Crafts said she was pleased with this years’ event with a total of 72 entries and the professionalism of judge John Bradley.

“I think the event went really well, we had a great opening night with about 70 people that came, we had 72 entries which was fabulous,” said Ms Archibald.

“The judge was excellent and very methodical and did a wonderful job in choosing his selections, people were very happy with his selections and he was very thorough in why he chose what he did,” she said.

“We have about 20 more entries than last year but I don’t judge the success of a show on how many entries you get.

“It’s more getting it out there, giving people a go, giving people a chance to promote what they do, we like to encourage and nurture the arts here in Murrurundi.

“It’s so much about those sorts of things and I think it is successful if you get new people to come along and enter these sort of competitions,” Mandy Archibald said.

The next focus for Murrurundi Arts and Crafts is the photography prize in September this year.

The exhibition is being shown at the RSL Hall, New England Highway, Murrurundi and will be open on weekends between 10am and 4pm with the final day being the Monday of the June long weekend.
