Lost Locks for Vicki
IN memory of Vicki James, more than $8,000 was raised by Meg Adams, Mac Dawson and Shane Bowman rin the World’s Greatest Shave earlier this month.
“Hopefully Vicki would have been proud, after yelling at me for cutting my hair off,” laughed Ms Adams.
“I had my head partial shaved and partially cut by Kim Baker, she had to follow my strict regulations because I am a flight attendant for JetStar and they wouldn’t allow me to go to the scalp, but my hair is still very short,” she said.
“Mac had his completely shaved off and then Shane Bowman, the barman at the Fleece he had his 20 year old handlebar mow shaved off and that raised $2,000,” Meg Adams said.
Meg Adams was close friends with the daughter of Vicki James, Kate.
Ms Adams said she was inspired to do the Greatest Shave for Vicki when she was still alive and initially hoped to raise $500.
“It was really awful not being able to say or do anything, what can you actually say when someone is dealing with that and it is their mother, so it was Vicki that inspired it, I did some research and decided to do the fundraiser,” said Ms Adams.
“She passed away before we did the shave, so we decided to do it in the new year, then we decided on May and thought everyone comes home for the Horse Festival parade so decided to do it then,” she said.
“We raised the money by word of mouth on social media and on the actual day of the shave we were selling bacon and egg rolls in the morning, we did a huge lunch which is where we made most of the money,” she said.
“JBS Meats in Scone and Dimmocks Meats in Aberdeen very generously donated a couple of hundred dollars worth of meats, so we had a sausage sizzle, steaks, potato bakes and we just couldn’t have raised the money we did without the help of the butchers who supplied the meat,” Meg Adams said.
