Scone Golf: April 15
By Lyn Banks
On Saturday, April 15 at Scone Golf Course the men played an 18 Hole Stableford for the Curtis Gant Betts Trophy.
It was an ideal day for golf with no wind and a pleasant temperature.
There were two very good scores of 41 points by Ross Banks who won A Grade and Tom Thompson who won C Grade.
The B Grade prize went to Jim Elder on 36 points.
Jim’s 36 combined with 38 previously enabled him to win the President’s Trophy by 3 points to Ross Banks.
On the 2nd / 11th David Druce had a near hole in one when his shot finished 0.09 metres from the hole, this giving him a jackpot of 12 balls also.
On the 8th / 17th Russell Nicholls was the closest at 2.77 metres.
The ball winners were: Tom Thompson, Ross Banks 41, Jeff Harrington 37, Jim Elder 36, Russell Nicholls, Kallen Brownlee 35, Tony O’Neill, Steve Morse and George Davidson all on 34 points.
In the ladies 18 Hole Stableford the regulars enjoyed the course early in the day.
The winner of the Scone RSL Group prize was Lyn Banks who played consistent golf for 36 points, beating Yvonne Palmer on a countback.
Next Saturday, April 22 will be an 18 Hole Individual and 2 Ball Mystery Stableford for the Alan Wood, Steve Morse and Col Solway Trophy.
This is an interesting concept as players don’t know who they are partnered with until the end of play!
On Monday, April 10 the ladies played round four of the HRDGA pennant series. A pleasing 4-2 win was the result over the host club Cypress Lakes, and this has Scone placed equal leaders with The Vintage.
Wins were recorded by Lyn Banks, Sue Watts, Julie Leckie and Kathy Robinson, whilst June Jukes and Kerry McLennan went down.
The next game is against Muswellbrook at Branxton on Monday, April 24.
Unfortunately, due to the impact of school holidays and Easter, the ladies only had four for play last Thursday.
Hopefully the normal field will return for the playing of an 18 Hole Stableford for the Ruby’s Girl Trophy on Thursday, April 20.
The Red Tee Challenge continues on Sunday’s with a 9 Hole Stableford being on offer each week for social players and members.
With shots being gained if a player doesn’t win, playing regularly will bring its benefits.
The winner on Sunday, April 9 was Mitchell Casson.
